Papers, 1792-1844.

A small collection of papers of Dr. Benjamin Shurtleff, originally of Plymouth (later Carver), Mass. and later a practicing physician in Boston. Included are letters from Shurtleff to Ephraim Spooner of Plymouth written as a surgeon in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Merrimack in the West Indies during the quasi-war with France (1799-1801), with comments on privateering; certificates of his medical study; and letters from his father Benjamin and to his brother Lot, primarily regarding cattle and sheep farming in Carver.
